What Environmentalists Need to Know about Economics

Here is this week's video. The speaker obviously has his political views on display here, but he does an excellent job of outlining many of the challenges facing people who have to develop environmental policy.

  2. This video emphasizes how important the role of economics is to the environment. It is important for the government to become involved in the environment so that it is no longer demoralized. It is obvious that the government needs to get involved when the five ways markets can fall do occur.
I believe that it is important for our government to take more action when it comes to the environment because it the end, the environment is the most important factor in mans survival. People need to be more proactive when it comes to nature and take into account what could happen if we continue to destroy it. With political backup I believe that environmentalist can stop the demoralization of the earth.

  3. He makes a good point, (and this can be applied to other issues, too) to address an issue the scale of pollution and environmental issues, one should understand the economics behind it.

  5. The speaker believes that environmentalists and economists must embrace one another so that both may achieve their goals. He believes that if more is invested into green technology, then both sides can succeed.

  6. I liked that he pointed out that part of environmentalism is having a better quality of life. Also, in light of recent natural disasters, I found his comments on private insurance companies raising the costs for those areas hit hard by those disasters interesting. Rather than the government subsidizing for those people to move back, encourage them to move to safer areas. Chances are the same area will get hit again and once again the government will throw more money away.
